Goes back even further.  The Processor Technology SOL-20 also resolved
video memory bus contension in favour of the CPU.  Unlike the TRS-80,
though, the SOL-20's video memory was 8-bit [7-bit for the TRS-80].
Hence, one could run programs in video memory -- which had the effect
of blanking the entire display...
