I'm not familiar with any laws having been overturned on the basis of 
being "unpopular."  It never stopped the prohibition movement (though 
technically one might say that the laws were repealed, and even then 
only after many years, just look at the horrifyingly tight restrictions 
in place on the sale and use of alcohol.  Not that I mind in this 
particular case, but the general principle still applies), and shows no 
sign of stopping the DMCA either.  :(
